Our Naturopathic Doctors are trained and qualified to perform acupuncture. Acupuncture uses thin needles to stimulate points all over the body. Each point falls on a meridian that corresponds to a specific organ in the body. By stimulating these points acupuncture can treat a wide variety of conditions.
What does acupuncture treat exactly?
- General Pain
- Muscle or Joint Pain (Back, Knee, etc.)
- Breech Babe
- Heart burn
- Bloating and indigestion
- Chronic Diarrhea
Does acupuncture hurt?
Most people will not experience any feeling with the majority of the points used. A more common sensation is one of heaviness while the needle remains inserted. In Chinese Medicine this sensation is called De-Qi and is thought to be a positive sign that the point has been activated and is brining balance back to the meridian.
How long do treatments take and how many will I need?
Treatments are 30-45 minutes in length and done in a quite and peaceful environment to allow for total relaxation. We recommend starting with 6 consecutive weeks of treatment, followed by maintenance appointments. This being said, each person is different and recommendations will vary depending on goal/treatment/conditions.
How do I prepare for my treatment?
For comfort, please wear loose or stretchy clothes to your appointment and avoid strenuous exercise 30 minutes before and after a treatment.
Is it covered by insurance?
Short answer, yes. Long answer, each individual insurance plan is different and some bill under "naturopath", while others bill under both "acupuncture" and "naturopath". This is something we cannot predict. It's always best to call your insurance company if you are wondering about your unique coverage.
